Europe Day 4: Old Old Things

Today was a good day in Paris.

To start off, we attended Mass at St. Sulpice.  It was, of course, all in French.  Add to that my limited knowledge of a Catholic service, and I had a bit of a difficult time following.  But, I did cross myself the correct way at the necessary times, thanks to my oldest friend Kelly, who is Catholic.  Still, the tiny chairs-shorter than my hip-made it a less than comfortable experience.

After Mass there was an organ recital.  I enjoyed listening as I wandered around the rest of the church, viewing the stain glass windows and small chapels in little alcloves outside the main sanctuary. It was a pleasant way to spend the morning.  I was astounded to think that the church had been there for so very long, built by hands alone, and still stood in such fantastic shape!

Afterwards, we enjoyed a light lunch at the Croissanterie.  I ate a panini. I have eaten many sandwich/bread items lately, it seems the French thing to do. Fortunately, it is incredibly delicious, and they come in many varieties, so I do not expect to be tired of them soon.  More important than my meal, a handful of song birds were flying around in there!  They darted around our heads and pooped everywhere, but were still fun to watch.

We strolled to le Musee de Cluny, a medevil museum.  It featured a wide variety of very old statues, stain glass windows, and tapestries.  Most notable was the tapestry of the Lady and the Unicorn.  I wandered around that place for ever! I was so impressed with the religious relics that were on display! Ah, I just really like old stuff :)

I was the last from my group out of the Museum.  Fortunately, Melissa was a nice friend and waited for me. So she, Josh, Ashley and I wandered around the Latin quarter.  I enjoyed a nutella crepe, and we stumbled upon another old chuch, just hanging out in the middle of the restaurants off of some odd street.  How fantastic to find a memoir of the past still looming large in the center of the present!

A little more wandering through a garden and down the narrow streets was pleasant. But, as always, I was relieved to return to the FIAP and rest my tired feet. Nearly all the pharamcies around here sell Dr. Scholl's shoes.  I may have to get a pair of his sandles, so that I can be a little more comfortable!

Anyway, I must go.  Dinner is just now being served (6:45pm).  Despite being unfasionably early, the cafeteria of the hotel is filling up quickly, and I am hungry!

Have a delightful day!
