Europe Day 5: Louvre

Today I went to the Louvre.
To describe it would be a challenge. It is, after all, so incredibly huge that if a person were to look at every single pictures for three minutes, it would still take WEEKS to pass through the entire thing!
First, we walked through the Greek sculpture exhibit. I am very glad we did! I am always amazed at how smooth the stone is, despite having been constructed thousands of years ago, with what we would now consider to be rudimentary tools. Hair, eyes, and even toes are expertly crafted...I am amazed.
Not surprisingly, my favorite was Lady Victory. She has no arms nor head, and they have only recovered one had with two fingers attached, but I am awed by her. She stands powerful and erect. Her wings have risen, as if in the moment before she would take flight. I am almost glad she has no face and I can decide for myself her emotions. I believe she was carved with an earnest look upon her face, as she gazes off in the distance to those who are ready for her.
I also appreciated Venus de Milo. Mostly because she was absolutely beautiful.

For lunch, I was feeling bold and ordered duck leg and escargo, neither of which I had ever eaten before. It was pretty good!

I am a little homesick though. But I'm sure in a day or two I'll get over it. It's the little things, like people who know you very well, and knowing where I can get a cheap hair dryer, and having multiple pairs of shoes, isntead of just one, not-nearly-as-comfortable-as-they-should-be-for-all-the-effort-I-went-to-for-finding-them pair. And a good breakfast. Here, they eat big dinners very late in the evening, and therefore only eat a small breakfast, specifically a croissant, coffee, and a cigarette. I don't like coffee and smoking is gross, so that leaves me with a single, lonely croissant for breakfast every morning.

French Culture; you are rather irritating to me right now.
